Join Us For Live Acoustic Music & Singing
In Historic Washington Square Park - FREE
General Information
A note from
Joe Budnick
|
I'm always looking for good singers and acoustic musicians who will
join me to play Free Music in Washington Square Park. Some musicians
may be invited to play on special UMO recording projects
and performances. Contact me |
| What: |
Play and Sing Along - Free Live Acoustic Music and Singing featuring Rock,
R&B and Soul songs from 2010 back thru 1960's, covers and original
songs played by professional musicians from various bands. Washington Square has been the
showcase for many famous musicians and songwriters (such as
Bob Dylan), who played free music for visitors at one time or
another. Many styles of acoustic music are represented. (No amplifiers or
drums please.) Click here
to see photos. |
|
When: |
Spring, Summer & Fall (April thru November approx)
- Sunday
Afternoons weather permitting, from 2 pm till ?. Also there
is music on other "Good Weather days". Check the Forecast and Current Weather in Washington Square Park. |
| Where: |
Washington Square Park is located at the lower end of 5th Avenue,
between West 4th street and West 8th Street in Greenwich Village, New York
City, USA. Acoustic guitarists, singers and other low-volume groups can usually be heard around the fountain plaza
and louder groups can be seen in various corners of the park. To
find the free UMO music look for Joe Budnick. Wears an UMO Music
baseball cap. |
| Admission: |
FREE. UMO professional musicians do not collect money.
When you see Joe Budnick wearing the UMO Music baseball cap you can be sure the music is
always free. Note - Be aware that there are other musicians in the park
who ask for money. |
| Food/Drinks: |
There are many deli's pizza shops, restaurants and bars located within one or
two blocks just outside the park as well as hot dogs and pretzel carts in
the park. (Note: Alcoholic beverages are "Not Permitted" in Washington Square Park.) |
| Visitor Information: |
You will meet many nice people in the park on
Sundays, however, keep in mind that this is a public space and therefore you should watch
your personal belongings accordingly. Also, please be advised that
periodically there are persons asking for donations for various
questionable causes. (TIP - If a cause is near and dear to your heart, you may
want to consider mailing your contributions directly to the organization that they claim
to represent.)
Rest Room Tip: Unfortunately, the public Park Rest Rooms
may not always be very
pleasant, so it may be worth going to buy a can of soda or bottle of water in a
local shop just to use
their rest rooms. For additional information while at the park there are Park Rangers in
green uniforms stationed around the circle.
|
| Sound Limit Regulations |

Performance Information for Musicians, Singers and Songwriters
| Who plays: |
Professional Artists who are perfecting new material or just wish to interact
with other musicians in front of a large audience.
New Musicians/Singers/Songwriters who wish to benefit from the learning experience made possible by playing with
other musicians in front of a live audience without microphones or amplifiers.
Part-time and Weekend Musicians who just want to express themselves in front of
a large
audience.
|
| Who is the Audience? |
The audience is generally a diverse mix of
villagers, tourists, musicians, and other people who share a love of both original
and popular music. |
| How It Works: |
Musicians generally stake out a corner around the circle with enough distance between
them and the next performer so as not to interfere with each others' music. Generally,
musicians do not join in with other musicians or singers, unless they have been invited to
do so. The music usually starts around 2 PM and the park closes at midnight (approx.),
though most musicians finish by early evening. |
| Sound Limit Regulations: |
Important Note - Washington Square Park provides an environment for musicians,
singers and
songwriters to perform acoustic-only music and sing in front of a live audience.
Amplified
instruments, Microphones, Boom Boxes, and Drums are illegal in Washington Square Park
and may be confiscated by Park Rangers or Police. |
